Poor Aunt Mabel
By Isaac W. Feinberg
Poor Aunt Mabel
It was at the Passover Seder table
as we were feeding Aunt Mabel,
that she surprised the whole group
when she fell in the soup
and rolled home inside a kneidel!
The above limerick was written over fifty years ago when my daughter, then 10 and now 62, had a Springtime homework assignment about forms of poetry. Allegedly my daughter's work but truly mostly mine, it has been recited at every family seder since then and has really become a regular part of the pre-dinner rituals, just before the soup of course.
