At the Close of a Day, Comes Shabbat
by Michael Druck © December 21, 2006
I have seen them at the close of a day
coming with their pious faces.
As the evening approaches grey,
yet moments show what grace is.
I have passed them with a nodding head,
and polite meaningful words.
”Good Shabbos” is what they said.
And I smiled at what I heard.
I feel them at every moment.
My people make me smile,
inward and outward,
now, and all the while.
We are such friends and live our days.
That is you and that is I.
Reaching for G-d and sky,
and gladly giving praise.
We dare to be brave and be free.
We are the best that G-d can find.
We have learned greatness from He,
Who fills the coffers of our mind.
And we have something that loves G-d.
And no one does it better.
