Easy Cheesecake Recipe for Shavuot

Shavuot is a holiday that really has no special observance for our times from the Torah laws. However it has become the custom for the men to stay up all night long and study the Torah. The reason is that when the Torah was given many men slept and since the Torah was given at this time, we commemorate it by staying up all night learning.
In addition, the custom of having a milk dish has become wide spread throughout the various groups of Jews. The reason for this is that when the Torah was given on Mount Sinai, it forbade cooking meat and milk together in the same pot. Since before the Jews received the Torah, they were not obligated to separate meat and milk, they had used the same pots.
How could they cook on Yom Tov without kosher pots and pans? The answer is simple: they had milk and cheeses on the day that the Torah was given.
We, too, have the custom of having a milk meal; but we must also eat meat. So what do we do? When the men return from the synagogue, they make kiddush on wine and we also eat a delicious cheesecake. This is a nice way to start the day. Then we wait a short time and we clear off the table and have our meat meal.
One of the easiest cheesecakes to make is also one of the tastiest. This is the recipe for a wonderful treat for Shavuot that your children can help you in preparing. All you need are some simple biscuit cookies, milk, cream cheese and instant vanilla pudding mix and you are ready to go.
- Line a baking pan with the biscuits tightly packed together. They are to be a bottom layer for your cheesecake.
- In a mixing bowl, add 24 oz. (or 1 1\2 lbs.) of cream cheese, one cup of milk, and one package of vanilla flavored instant pudding mix (uncooked). Mix all of these ingredients together.
- Spread the mixture onto the biscuits in the tray.
- Cover with another layer of biscuits.
- Refrigerate.
- Serve cold and wait for the compliments.
For a variety, try various flavors of instant pudding.
